ABOUT THE PLAY
Season: 17 November – 10 December 2023
Wed to Sat at 8.00pm
Sunday Matinees 4pm
Rehearsals commence in late September and there is a lower commitment required of the person playing this part to attend all rehearsals. However, commitment is required to all rehearsals in the final 3 weeks leading to the opening.
THE STORY: A junior solicitor Arthur Kipps, attends the funeral of Mrs Alice Drablow, somewhere on England’s bleak East Coast. When he glimpses a wasted young woman, dressed all in black, at the funeral, a creeping sense of unease begins to take hold. None of the locals will talk of the woman in black nor of her terrible purpose.
Years later, as an old man, he recounts his experiences to an actor in a desperate attempt to exorcise the ghosts of the past. The shadowy, half heard and sometimes only half-seen action builds to a chilling climax.
CHARACTER DETAILS
Note two roles have been cast, we have one role for a young person to play The Woman.
The Woman: Age – 20s. This role is a non-speaking part but crucial to the play. Requiring a good amount of physicality, flexibility, poise and general ability to move in a smooth way. The role uses makeup and costuming to create much of the tension in the play with multiple appearances. The role would suit an actor with a background in movement or dance.
