AUDITION – The Laramie Project

Auditions for Season 5 at the 1812 Theatre – The Laramie Project, by Moises Kaufman and the Members of the Tectonic Theatre Project, directed by Liam Mitchinson.

When: Sunday, July 28 th – 2pm – 4:30pm & Monday, July 29 th – 7pm – 9:30pm
Where: 1812 Theatre – 3 Rose st, Upper Ferntree Gully

Performance dates: Oct 3 rd – 26 th (4 weeks)

Wednesdays – Saturdays @ 8pm, Sundays @4pm

Synopsis:
On October 7, 1998, a young gay man was discovered bound to a fence outside Laramie, Wyoming, savagely beaten and left to die in an act of brutality and hate that shocked the nation. Matthew Shepard’s death became a national symbol of intolerance, but for the people of the town, the event was deeply personal. In the aftermath, Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theatre Project went to Laramie and conducted more than 200 interviews with its citizens. From the transcripts, the playwrights constructed an extraordinary chronicle of life in the town after the
murder. The result is an American modern classic that is one of the most performed theatre pieces in the country.

The director is seeking 8 actors (4M, 4F) to portray a range of characters in this unique ensemble performance.

Notes:
Age ranges are indicative only. As indicated above there are a range of characters of different ages for each actor to portray. The focus here should be on being able to show different characters through the use of body, voice and face.
Accents will be American Midwestern accents as well as from a range of areas across the US.
