General Information:

This will be a traditional pantomime with hero, villains, and a dame, involving physical comedy. Whilst the story will appeal to children, the humour will engage the adults. The style will encourage audience participation. Traditionally the dame is played by a man and the hero by a woman, but most other parts can be played by actors of diverse age and gender.  The performances will be timed to suit school holiday daytime audiences, with at least one evening performance for the “young at heart”. Cast and crew will need to be available for these times.

As well as actors and stage crew, we will need costuming, assistance with contacting schools and holiday programs, continuity assistant, etc.

Cast:

The Narrator: engages directly with the audience

The Miller : is Cora (the heroine)’s greedy and boastful father

The Miller’s wife: (traditional Dame played by a male): subservient, but not entirely foolish

Their daughter, Cora : the central character – a victim of circumstance

Reuben (traditional hero played by a female): a minstrel who finally saves the day and wins the fair maiden

King Titus: A greedy and ruthless ruler

Prince Gottfried: The heir apparent tends to follow orders

Sniversley, the guard: Wishes he didn’t have to follow orders, but is secretly in love with the prince

Rumpelstiltskin: the trickster who sees an opportunity

3 Blind Mice: not traditionally part of the story, but actively involved in helping to win the day

Spider: cameo appearance, may be played by an actor with another role
