    VOLUNTEER AT 1812

Volunteering at the 1812 Theatre is an extremely rewarding experience, allowing you to build new friendships, learn new skills or use existing ones and challenge yourself in a supporting and friendly environment.

Roles Available

 Set Building

All plays take place in the context of a location and time period, and it is the set that provides that context – it can make or break the production, and as such it is given a lot of attention.

We are always on the lookout for people who are eager to learn and willing to get their hands a bit grubby to create that imaginary world in which our actors can perform.

If you can handle a paintbrush or a hammer and have a few hours free every couple of weeks, we want to hear from you!

Backstage

Ever wanted to help out behind the scenes while the show is running?

We always need people who have the skill of tiptoeing in darkness, getting the next costume, prop or big set piece ready for its grand entrance, on cue with not a second to spare.

So if you’re interested in learning what it takes to bring a show to life, let us know and we will teach you the ropes…

Front of House

The face of 1812, you could be the lovely lady or gent greeting our patrons at the door, guiding them to their seats and making sure the refreshments are ready to go when needed.

Tech Crew // Bio Box

Have a fascination with lighting and sound?  Always wanted to be the one operating the special effects?

With a wide range of lighting and sound equipment at our disposal, it’s a great experience to be the one bringing the stage alive with massive claps of lightning and rumbling thunder, or the soft chirps of birds in a lush forest scene.

Roles such as this do require some training and time to build skills through experience, but if you’re willing to learn we are happy to teach you.

Social Media and Marketing

We have a small yet mighty team of Social Media and Marketing volunteers that help showcase each of our productions.

If you are handy with a camera and Photoshop and looking for a fun challenge in your free time, please get in touch.  All equipment provided.

Volunteering Benefits

No Specific Time Requirements

We understand that people have busy lives and we are happy with whatever help you can provide, so we’re extremely flexible in scheduling times.

Depending on the role that interests you, your time commitment can be limited to a specific season, a single performance or few hours at a set build.

Social Events

1812 Theatre is built on a strong, friendly community with friends of all ages, from all walks of life.

Whether it’s a barbie in our backyard area, movie nights or other get-togethers, we realise our volunteers are our life blood, and a pretty social bunch, too.

Ongoing Support

We know it can be daunting to be thrown straight into the thick of it, and that’s something we always try to avoid.

Our existing board members and volunteers are always around to guide you in the right direction and support you when you need it.

Learning New Skills at your Own Pace

If you are interested in joining our hands-on areas such as Set Building and Backstage Crew, the amount of work to be done can seem quite daunting, especially when you don’t know how on earth to do it!

But don’t worry, we will ensure there is always someone on hand to help. You can start off with the smaller jobs, and as you become more comfortable and are able to challenge yourself, try tackling some of the bigger projects.
